The
curriculum development process at GASC doesnt just happen
overnight. Before introducing material to students, GASC considers
advice from numerous sources, including practitioners. These volunteers
come from both local and state agencies. They provide feedback on
industry forecasts and job trends. Eleven separate Platform Advisory
Boards with more than 200 business and post-secondary volunteers
meet at least twice annually to review and help update GASCs
curriculum.
In
addition to reviewing curriculum, local employers help GASC students
by:
- Serving
as classroom speakers and/or project observationists to convey
what employers look for in students upon entering the workforce;
- Providing
mentoring, work experiences or job shadowing experiences for students
and/or teachers (the length of the experience is determined by
the employer);
- Assisting
in planning the future direction of the program based on industry
needs;
- Serving
on scholarship/career fair committees;
- Speaking
to parents/potential students during recruitment & Open House;
- Assisting
with organizing and judging student competitions;
- Evaluating
classroom equipment to ensure it meets industry standards;
- Identifying
new business partners and generally promoting the program to the
public on behalf of GASC.
